Adoptive
Couple v. Baby Girl, 570 U.S. ___ (2013), is a decision of the United States
Supreme Court holding the Indian Child Welfare Act does not bar the termination
of a biological father’s rights who never had physical or legal custody of the
child, and otherwise had no standing under state law to block the adoption of
his child. This decision has wide-ranging implications for adoption, third-party
custody, and foster care and termination proceedings involving Indian
children. Join us for a discussion on the case and the possible
implications for your practice.
