While attorneys have been business
associates since early 2003, changes effective this September raise the stakes
for attorney and law firm compliance with the HIPAA Privacy and Security
Rules. This session will review HIPAA requirements imposed on lawyers as
business associates and examine the issue of whether a conflict exists between
HIPAA and the Minnesota Rules of Professional Responsibility related to client
confidentiality and conflicts of interest.
