Support in Trying Times: What Solo and Small-Firm
Lawyers Can Do For Ourselves, Each Other, Our Clients, and Our
Community
We all know law practice is challenging. We work with
clients in crisis; we are ethical professionals with responsibilities
not only to those clients, but to courts, adversaries, and the legal system; and we are
businesspeople who have to keep the lights on and the doors open
whether we have too much work or not enough. We work closely
with other lawyers, paralegals, and administrative professionals who become like
family. When a loss affects a client, or a fellow lawyer, it affects us all.
Getting through difficult times is hard; finding
help shouldn't be. Here in Minnesota, we have a robust set of resources
to help lawyers going through difficult times. We also have an
extraordinary community known for stepping up and supporting its people.
This year, join us at the Solo and Small Firm Section's annual breakfast meeting
to hear stories of how legal professionals have cared for themselves, their
clients, and each other in times of crisis--from people who have been
there. Crises may be inevitable, but we don't have to get through them
alone.
