How Are You Experiencing Cultural Differences: How Are Others Experiencing You?

Event Description

Deadline to Register: April 7, 2016

In the legal profession, you are interacting with people who are different from you all the time. Have you ever questioned why some people don’t understand, are unaware or not open to those differences? Well, this workshop will introduce you to a model of Intercultural Development that will definitely answer some of your questions and help educate lawyers about the elimination of bias or prejudice in the legal profession.

Please join us after the CLE for a reception.

Presenter:

Phyllis Braxton, M.Ed., President and Founder of Pursuing Intercultural Needs & Knowledge, PINK Consulting, LLC.

Ms. Braxton has facilitated difficult conversations with organizations and individuals for nearly twenty years on her journey to build intercultural competence. She is a native of Moss Point, Mississippi and has been living in Minnesota for over twenty years. Growing up in the segregated south coupled with studying diversity trends from Iceland to the Canada; presenting at international conferences and facilitating diversity conversations in rural and urban settings nationwide best describes her journey and passion for pursuing equity and systemic change. Ms. Braxton decided to become a community builder so that her daughter would not encounter the same challenges of marginality she faced as a child and still experiences today.  Working for human service organizations like the St. Paul Urban League as Director of Teen Pregnancy Prevention, the Girl Scout Council of St. Croix Valley as a Membership Development Director and for Minnesota Independent School Forum as Director of Multicultural Services where she supported 40 private high schools throughout the state on advancing their diversity initiatives and Director of Diversity Initiatives for Totino-Grace High School has given her myriad opportunities to build allies and dismantle the “isms” that have a negative affect on society.  Ms. Braxton has vast experience bridging organizations to communities of color through networking and serving as a change agent with a non-threatening approach to advocate for traditionally marginalized groups. Her personal mission is to bring heartfelt credibility that is supported academically and experientially to a field that most consider emotional and soft skills.
