Deadline to Register: February 23, 2016
Recently, the Department of Homeland Security issued a new
proposed F-1 rule that if adopted will effect F-1 students who graduate with a
degree in Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) and decide to pursue
employment using the STEM Option Practical Training (OPT) extension. It is
possible that by the date of this CLE the new rule will have been issued in
final form. While the new draft rule would extend STEM OPT extension from the
current 17 months to 24 months, the Department of Homeland Security imposes new
burdens on the student, college and university and the employer. Please plan to
attend to learn about the new opportunities and burdens arising out of this new
proposed rule and how the college and universities plan to address these
burdens.
Also come to get the latest update on the litigation that
prompted this new rule. DHS claims that it received more than 50,000 comments (2
and half times) its previous record. DHS has requested a 90 day extension of
time to implement the new rule because it cannot meet the February 13, 2016
deadline. Come to the CLE to find out if DHS gets its extension and what that
means for F-1 STEM OPT applications.
Registration and lunch begin at 11:30 a.m.
followed by the CLE starting at 12:00 p.m.
